Voices on the Wind
Voices in the Garden
by Lars Samson
Fire flares from a log, freeing summer days
when sunlight toasted its bark and leaves. When the tree
knew it would live forever. Radiating
passion that grips soil in deep hands and breathes
air into sky.
Flames flicker its family movie — fluttering
and snapping with joys and sorrows. Smoke curls
rings of seasons past and weaves them
up a hollow trunk narrowing
to a point of light.
From rooftop, a life unfurls, thins to unseen,
and descends among trees. A spirit nourishing those
still bound to earth.
