Voices on the Wind Memorable Voices
I Am On a painting by Charly Palmer seen at the DuSable Museum, Chicago by Wilda Morris In Sunday School we studied seven I am statements Jesus makes in the Gospel of John. Now I come to this gallery, stand mesmerized by a painting of black men in the 1960s, each holding a sign: I AM A MAN a statement they made because their humanity was denied, their manhood denigrated. I ponder how those who claim to love the I am who says, I am the light, the life, the way, who says I am the vine; you are the branches, the I AM who commands, Love one another, could fail to see that we are all brothers and sisters, all of us on the same vine of life.
