ALOE by Kimberly Hardy The courage to speak while knees are weak as you approach me with bravery at its peak It was your eyes that spoke healing a heart once broke Like a soothing aloe On old wounds like a cloak While the balm spreads to ease the pain The sadness in me begins to drain All the while resisting the urge to open up And allow these blessings to rain It moves towards my fingertips Past the breathlessness on my lips Prompting me to shake your hand Yet at my heart it makes its grips We speak softly in the moment Long pauses seem to torment Finding the right words to say Soon parting ways to my lament After thoughts of you grow like vines Amidst the aloe in my mind And I replay the scene for some time Of your eyes that were so kind
